That's interesting. Typically you'd loop from hot to neutral within the same fixture. Maybe this setup is really wired like a crossover cable, so that you've now got a pair that's hot-neutral?

That's how california has been solving their power issues lately. Why let all that unused power leak into the atmosphere? Feed it back into the grid!
